ECLO- Extracorporeal Liquid Interface Oxygenation
Mark Sullivan built the first physical system of the ECLO machine. This ECLO invention was first constructed, operated and tested by Mark Sullivan at the Acorn Research Laboratories, Austin, Texas. The in vivo experiments were conducted on FDA and Texas Department of State Health Services approved dog test subjects. The improvements are described in a report published in The Journal of Artificial Organs. The peer-reviewed article describes the reduction rate of erythrocyte lysis and improved PCO2 and PO2 exchange ratios. The described results indicate several improvements over the standard-of-care extracorporeal membrane oxygenation system.
